Monkey on the Lam is on the Lam

Saturday, June 27th, 2009

Monkey on the Lam, as of this week, will be moving to Wednesdays, and starting an hour earlier: at 7, to extend to 9 PM. It’s a better change all around for me: I can take it easier on my nights off from work and I get my 2 hour slot back. I’m excited. Of course this means I have to make a new flyer now, and I’ve had one mulling about in my head for quite some time, so that will be up here and around the neighborhood soon.

So be sure to listen to the stream over on wvvy.org or tune in 93.7 if you’re local.

Neglected Radio

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

I have been slacking on the radio updates, so here are some.

2 hour show filling in for chris last week
1 hour MOTL (I’m not putting this one up for public consumption – but it’s available by request)
and 20 minutes or so of wolfie’s show from last week. Sorry wolfie, my computer failed in it’s task of recording you. It’s a jerk and I’m punishing it.

Hopefully the recording will go smoothly for Wolfie’s show today (assuming it’s happening, we haven’t talked about it) and I will be able to put it up tonight or tomorrow.

By the way, if you’re on the vineyard and you can make it to the tisbury street on fair July 8th, we’ll have stickers of the splattery vineyard logo, and magnets of the new logo, so hit it up.

Man Breaks into Dairy Queen, Steals Only Ice Cream and Jimmies

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

picture-11I stopped by the local Dairy Queen the other day and talked to AJ, the manager there who I have known since high school, and he told me about how a man had broken into the Dairy Queen the other night and had spilled ice cream on the floor. I laughed at the ridiculousness of the situation and wondered how he knew exactly what the guy had done, little did I know there was video footage of the event.

The MVTimes posted the footage on their website today.

Edit: Added Youtube version:

Edit: Update from Nelson Sigelman, author of the article:

The Edgartown Dairy Queen break-in is solved. Zachary L. Gould, 25, a seasonal Oak Bluffs resident, went to the Edgartown Police station Thursday morning accompanied by attorney Charles Morano and his father. He admitted he is the man a surveillance camera captured breaking into the popular ice cream shop early Saturday morning, officer Chris Dolby told The Times late Thursday afternoon.
The video was posted on The Times website and photos were published in the print edition. Mr. Gould went to the Oak Bluffs Library Thursday morning and read the newspaper online.
“He called this morning after seeing your website,” said officer Dolby. “He said he was so intoxicated at the time that he didn’t recall really even doing it, but once he saw the website this morning, he had fast recollection. He called an attorney, and turned himself in today at the station.”
Police plan to seek a complaint of breaking and entering, and malicious destruction of property. A court date is yet to be determined. He will be arraigned sometime next week, said police.
Mr. Gould received his undergraduate degree in public policy and law from Trinity College. He is currently enrolled in law school. He is a former intern to Senator Christopher Dodd of Connecticut.
Police thanked The Times for publishing the photos and video. “It’s good when it works out like this,” officer Dolby said. “There’s no mystery, and it’s all wrapped up. More people need to put video surveillance in their stores, as far as I’m concerned.”
He said the police had received many telephone calls from people who thought they recognized the man in the video. “We thank you for your help,” said Mr. Dolby. “If The Times would put a little brief up, it will eliminate the calls that are coming in from tipsters.”

Official Launch

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

Click over on Web and Radio now and you will see the corresponding sections in action. Changes will certainly be made in the future, but I have finally reached a point where I feel comfortable saying that Maury de Geofroy.com is OFFICIALLY LAUNCHED.

Expect changes and updates, of course, but there are no more empty “coming soon” sections.

And please, by all means: comment or send a message with any suggestions you may have for features. I have plenty of ideas of my own, such as adding an “about” section, spreading some more red coloring throughout the rest of the site, and eventually having some sort of shopping cart for art sales, but for now: please enjoy what’s here: and please, by all means, spread the word.

Strange Monkeys in 4D 05-06 & 05-07

aaahhhh-4d1-finalMonkey On The Lam Logo

I finally got around to editing and uploading the two shows from last week. My computer was wigging on me at the beginning of the process for both recordings so the two recordings start a little late (and i forgot to edit the bit of democracy now out of the end of Wolfie’s show) but they are mostly intact. You know, for all you completists out there.

Self Portrait: Bottled

Saturday, May 2nd, 2009

img_0345On the way back from NYC this week, several things happened. Our van broke down, smoke pouring out of it on the side of the road. We went to a Goodwill and hitched a ride with a nice, albeit slightly off-her-rocker middle aged woman. I bought political books by famous authors for very cheap. I got myself some framed pictures that I intend to use as future art projects. I was temporarily stranded at a Friendly’s. The curtains in our hotel room collapsed and we had to switch rooms. I had some very good Tiramisu.

In the midst of all this, after purchasing a bottle of water from a starbucks on the road, I decided to spend a portion of the ride taking “experimental” photographs of objects on the side of the road, and of myself. It’s only an iPhone camera, but it beats my last digital camera and has tons of storage space, so I am taking advantage of it. Anyway, one example of such a photograph appears here: a self portrait, taken through the bottle of water I bought. I found myself enjoying the various stretched effects that the bottle had on the camera, and the look of the water as it appeared to rise above the edges of the road. I took several photos that may end up in a gallery here soon. I know my updates have been sparse and far between lately, I plan to try to get back on task and post more often. I guess taking a vacation can sort of pull you away from the all important things, like updating your website, huh?

I hope the next iphone update actually has video, as is rumored, and that I can use it with my current phone, because I would really enjoy that.

I had to take the night off from my radio show this week, but I plan to return in full force next week.
