I am not a smoker, but in Boston I was amazed by this – the video isn’t as impressive as the real thing – The “Electronic Cigarette” (link provided by the woman who was “smoking” it)- No tar, no smoke, just water vapor for appearances and system for distribution of nicotine inside it to give you your “fix.” The girl said “It’s like an inhaler.” She even got away with smoking it on the plane ride to Boston.
It’s not smelly. It even lights up at the end, looking like a surreal version of an actual cigarette. It’s actually pretty neat. I have no intention of taking up smoking because of it, but it seems like a good alternative for those who are looking to quit but still have the look and feel of smoking. We are living in the future and the future is electronic cigarettes. And turning your pockets inside out. Speaking of which, it’s probably less expensive than buying cartons of the real thing.
At the Burlesque Expo in Boston Wolfie and I witnessed an oddities fair. I snapped some photos. The oddities troupe is called “Eight Corner Globe.” It’s some freaky stuff, be warned. Here are the photos. Professor Badger was a funny guy and he had a wealth of knowledge, some real, some fake, about the materials in his collection. See below, and visit their website to book them for your town. Oh yeah, they vacation on the Vineyard and would love to do a setup near the flying horses.
(Feel free to click the comment button and ask any questions you may have about the above images, he gave a pretty decent description of what they all were. Human scrimshaw, live black widows, Vampire slaying kits, etc.)
I bought an iPhone in Boston yesterday and I am exploring the lovely world within it. One app I discovered was the free wordpress blogging app, from which I’m typing this very post. This phone is pretty slick, I must confess. For kicks, here’s a photo I took from the roof of the hotel. (if I think of it I’ll try to post photos from the floor of the burlesque expo today. There have been some neat sights but the trip has been overwhelming and I’ve had less time to appreciate the show than I planned for.)
I added a couple quick photoshops that I created for my friend Matt a while back to the art section (one of them was already there, but I decided to throw the supplement in alongside it). These were for a film audition that never became an actual film, but we had some fun shooting in Richard Lee’s house anyway. It was intended to be about questioning sanity, and I played an insane person.
I really got into the role and the lines between fun and reality became crossed and confused, most of the action was improvised on the spot with very little rehearsal and until “cut” was shouted I found myself wondering if everyone had really gone off the deep end. I also had a scene in which I was thrown out of a moving car. It was shot 3 times and I got my leg caught in a cable. Matt, if you read this, I’d love the raw footage some time, if any of it is still sitting around somewhere. Actually, it might be too horrifying to watch.
I designed these images to be as sexy as possible for the purpose of drawing people to the bodies, then placing the rats on the head, a bit like the Windowlicker artwork, it becomes disturbing if looked at for more than a quick glance.
There’s a pool party, classes on how to run a stripping oriented website, and various other events.
It’s at the Hyatt Regency in Cambridge, MA and it lasts through sunday (I’ll be leaving during the day that day).
Anyone gonna be in Boston this weekend? Drop me a line. Come on by? Or perhaps I’ll be able to peel my eyes away and get out of the hotel for a bit to visit.
Sarah’s going to have an Aequinox booth at the show and is selling several items.
Oh yeah and, on Saturday I’m going to run off to the AT&T store and buy myself an iPhone. Huzzah.
How’s this for service: the show performed, recorded, and available online within the same hour. Now I need some bands to perform on the show live so I can share them with the world instantly. Anyone? Smallish Acoustic acts preferable – the studio is very very small. I’m serious, drop me a comment, it’s free.
